Bruno Di Girolamo
Bruno di Girolamo studied clarinet with M° Fernando Gambacurta at the Conservatorio di S. Cecilia in Rome, graduating with full marks, and orchestral technique with Franco Ferrara in Venice. He toured throughout the world with “I Virtuosi di Roma” conducted by Renato Fasano. A collaborator of Luciano Berio for the professional development of the Regional Tuscan Orchestra, he was invited by distinguished reputation to join the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia, simultaneously winning the National Competition for the position of Principal Clarinet at the OSA. He served as Principal Solo Clarinet in the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Regional Tuscan Orchestra, the prestigious RAI Orchestras of Milan, Rome, and the Alessandro Scarlatti of Naples, as well as the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia and the Teatro S. Carlo di Napoli, collaborating with the most celebrated conductors of our time: Muti, Pretre, Aronovitch, Bernstein, Giulini, Sinopoli, Sawallisch, Markevitch, Previtali, Zecchi, Zoltan Pesko, Patanè, Vittorio Gui, Gavazzeni, Freccia, Lorin Maazel, Daniel Oren, and others. A member of numerous chamber music ensembles, he has recorded on CD the Clarinet Quintets by W. A. Mozart, C. M. v. Weber, and J. Brahms with the Quartetto Voces and the Rundfunk Orchestra Quartet; with the Jași Philharmonic Orchestra, the Concerto in B-flat major by S. Mercadante and the Concerto for Clarinet and Small Orchestra by G. Rossini. For these particular qualities, he was the preferred clarinetist of M° Franco Mannino, with whom he collaborated, organizing orchestras and ensembles for the performance of his works. A meticulous musician endowed with an uncommon virtuosic technique, he has specialized in the clarinet repertoire from the Classical period through the historical 20th century, performing both as a soloist and in chamber music formations at major musical institutions in Italy and abroad: Germany, France, England, Belgium, Japan, USA, Romania, Mexico, Russia, Latvia, Greece, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, Russia, Mexico, etc. He has performed nearly the entire operatic and chamber music repertoire, the latter in collaboration with the most important and celebrated Italian and international musicians (Accardo, Uto Ughi, Michele Campanella, Quartetto Voces, the Saarbrücken Radio Television Quartet, Soloists of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Soloists of the Accademia di S. Cecilia, Soloists of La Scala, Soloists of the S. Carlo di Napoli, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, etc.). The solo repertoire performed with orchestra includes works by W. A. Mozart, G. Rossini, L. Spohr, S. Mercadante, M. Puccini, A. Copland, F. Mannino, G. Finzi, L. Berio, and B. H. Crusell, of whom he has performed all three concertos for clarinet and orchestra — well known throughout Europe yet largely overlooked in Italy. He is regularly invited to serve on ministerial examination committees for orchestral positions and by major international institutions on juries for international competitions, most recently at the “Jeunesse Musicale” in Belgrade. He has given masterclasses at Italian conservatories and abroad (Russia, Latvia, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, etc.). Founder of the Associazione Anxur Musica and the Associazione Mozart di Terracina, he served as emeritus holder of the clarinet chair at the Conservatorio S. Cecilia in Rome.
